December 5, 2021(11 events) All day: "Christmas for Child Advocates Gift Drive" Ends Today! All day The Christmas for Child Advocates Gift Drive collects gift items for infants, children, and youth who are entangled in the cycle of child abuse and neglect, and find themselves wards of a court appointed advocate system through no fault of their own. A gift list has been made available at the Community Projects Team table on each Sunday beginning November 12 and ending December 12 for guidance in the selection of toys, clothing, gift cards, headphones, skateboards, helmets, colognes, and perfumes for various ages of children and youth, from babies to teenagers. A box will be prominently displayed on a table where the gifts can be deposited for delivery to Santa's workshop by Sunday, December 5th. No group gift wrapping will take place this year. If you are unable to shop for specific items, the drive is also more than pleased to accept gift cards from any brick-and-mortar retailers in place of physical goods. 9:00 am: Changing Women – Changing Women is a women's wisdom circle and Earth-based spirituality discussion group currently meeting online. Contact programs@firstuu.org for more information. 9:00 am: Early Morning Book Group – A weekly sharing of perspectives gained from reading 60 pages of a non-fiction book. Contact programs@firstuu.org for more information. 9:00 am: Mindful Meditation Group – Join the Mindful Meditation Group for music, brief recorded talks, and guided mindfulness meditations from a variety of teachers and leaders. Contact programs@firstuu.org for more information. 9:30 am: Religious Education for Children – For ages 4-11 years, with storytelling, games, songs, art, and more as we explore our UU values and how we express them in the world. Please contact carol@firstuu.org for advanced registration information. 10:15 am: Discussion Circle – Join the Discussion Circle for facilitated, educational discussions on a variety of topics where everyone follows group guidelines to create a safe, friendly environment. This group meets in a hybrid format, online and in-person together. Contact programs@firstuu.org for more information. 10:30 am: Parents' Group – Especially for parents with babies, toddlers, and pre-school children to learn ways to have happy, healthy, satisfying family lives through ideas, support, and community, the Parents' Group meets in a hybrid format on first and third Sundays. 11:30 am: RE for Teens - High School – Teens in High School meet online on 1st and 3rd Sundays, and outdoors in-person at the church on 2nd and 4th Sundays, to talk about exploring different spiritual practices and other topics of interest. Contact carol@firstuu.org for more information. 11:30 am: RE for Teens - Middle School – The YoUUth Unit meets online on 1st and 3rd Sundays, and outdoors in-person at the church on 2nd and 4th Sundays, for games, discussion, exploring values and the sometimes difficult issues of teen life. This session is a required step on the Path to Membership, and is offered in a hybrid format to allow for both online and in-person participation. December 11, 2021(1 event) 2:00 pm: Active Hope Training Session – A few years ago, the church studied the book Active Hope, which tells us "We have to choose our attitude about the climate crisis, hope our despair. We don't know if humanity will respond wisely, but we don't know that we won't either. So we have to choose our attitude." The Climate Action Team worked the follow-up program "Active Hope Training" this summer and liked it so much, they are starting a new session on October 30. They will meet every other Saturday, skipping Christmas. The link to register is on the church website under Climate Action Team as well as here. |
