December 18 cover

Dear Members and Friends,

Dear Members and Friends,

I am beyond excited that more and more holiday events are happening in person after the last several years we’ve had. We’re being careful with masks since the flu and Covid are still out there, but we’re getting to enjoy more of our holiday get-togethers.

I had such a good time rehearsing with Carol and the young folks for the pageant this past Sunday. Between Covid, and always needing to be in the Sanctuary, I don’t get to see them often enough.

Sunday at 11:30 am is the Children’s Christmas Pageant; at 9:30 am we’ll tell the same story with music, readers, and artwork. We’ll put a unique UU spin on the traditional nativity story. Wednesday will see our annual Winter Solstice Vespers, held in Channing Hall.

On Christmas Eve there will be three events happening! At 5:00 pm the Servicio Navideño, our Spanish-language Christmas Eve service, will commence. Then at 6:00 pm, Rev. Colin will recount holiday tales in the Fireside Room! Cider and cookies will accompany the storytelling. Then at 7:00 pm, the English-language Christmas Eve Service and Candle Lighting will begin. We hope you’ll make one or more of these a part of your Christmas Eve.

Both Christmas and New Year’s Day are on Sunday this year. On each day, we’ll be having just one service, at 10:30 am. That’s so you can get to Christmas lunch on time, and sleep in after welcoming 2023!

We’ll return to regular service times on January 8th. Continuing my revival of an annual tradition, I’ll again be looking back at those who passed away the previous year, and whose accomplishments and legacies will continue to inspire us.

I sincerely hope you enjoy time with family and friends this season, while being mindful of your health, and take the time to count your blessings. You are one of mine.
