News – April 12, 2024

Dear Members and Friends,

The excitement of past week is behind us, wildlife is back to normal day-to-night routines, the crescent moon welcomed the end of Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr holiday, and the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston launched the annual stewardship campaign. Wait, wasn’t there a total solar eclipse too?

Like many of you, I was positioning myself for optimal viewing of the solar eclipse and missed last Sunday’s launch of the “United for Love and Action” stewardship campaign. Since the next solar eclipse to cross much of North America would not be until year 2045, many felt the need to fight the traffic to see this year’s event. Yours truly was at Stonehenge II in Kerrville, a quirky two-thirds replica that only the state of Texas could see fit to produce.

So, I missed being handed my stewardship pledge card, cake to satisfy my sweet tooth, and the Rev. Dr. Colin Bossen’s sermon from the pulpit. Not to worry! If you missed the stewardship launch, pledge cards were mailed this week to members and friends.

In the past year we have accomplished so much both inside our community and as a recognized liberal beacon for justice in Houston and Texas. The coming year is filled with many programs and decisions, one of which is the selection of a settled senior minister. Fortunately, we have an amazing staff that keeps it all running along with many, many volunteers.

Each year, we ask members and friends to pledge a financial commitment for the upcoming fiscal year (July 2024 – June 2025) in support of our church’s annual operating budget. With your pledge, we can plan staffing levels, execute programs, and prepare a budget for approval by the congregation at the annual meeting on the 2nd of June. We ask that you make your pledge by either visiting the church website here FirstUU-Online-Pledge or by returning your pledge card by mail.

Thank you for being part of our community and contributing to sustaining the work of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston. Your pledge of financial support will help us to continue our mission and Vision for Widening Love’s Circle!

Peace,

Joe on behalf of the 2024 Stewardship Team:
