Dear Members and Friends,
Welcoming Spring!
As the weather is becoming more consistently enjoyable, I can see people out more enjoying the sun with cool breezes. We know this will not last long here in Houston, so I hope you are all getting out and enjoying the weather, the parks, trails, and many events going on around the city.
Here at First UU, we are preparing for the Spring Arts Festival which will be held on Saturday, May 4th. We are combining the church Open House with the Spring Arts Festival this year so that we can learn more about church teams and the opportunities for engagement here and in the greater community. Please save the date in your calendar so your entire family can join in on the fun. Church teams have been asked to host a table with an arts activity. Get ready to have fun dancing the maypole, singing songs, creating poetry, and participating in other arts activities. If you are a performer and would like to share your talents with the church community, please email Dr. Rocke at jolie@firstuu.org.
You may notice that the choir is growing, and the music program is more diverse than ever. We have had some phenomenal guest artists, and we always appreciate the talents of our member arts volunteers. From week to week, you can hear the beautiful floating sounds of the flute, clap your hands with the beat of the drums, pensively savor the tickling of the piano, or hum along with our melodious choir, be enraptured by a poet or shared story, or visually inspired toward change through the various artistic expressions carefully crafted to meet the needs of our diverse congregation. It is a joy and honor to serve this community and share the gift of the arts.
Make sure you view the FotoFest exhibit in the Fireside Room and the Sanctuary that was curated by our very own Bossen family. Wendel White’s work is captivating.
First Sundays are Museum Sundays. Join other congregants in Channing Hall at 1:15 pm to visit local museums. The list of excursions is in the Spring Program Booklet.
Don’t forget about Third Sunday Art Forum from 10:45-11:15 am where we showcase social justice through the arts. There are so many wonderful arts activities available for you to participate in. Check the Order of Service each week so you don’t miss anything!
