UU the Vote and the Texas UU Justice Ministry are hosting a national phone bank specifically for Texas -- to turn out Texas voters in the upcoming March 1st primary election. You will get trained in the phone bank, with an easy script to use. Be part of this fun, purposeful action, and a special part of the 30 Days of Love campaign! While voter suppression laws and partisan redistricting, abortion restrictions, and climate crises threaten the lives, safety, and political power in BIPOC and other marginalized communities in Texas, we can work together to make sure those community voices are heard in the 2022 primary. February 5, 2022(1 event) 2:00 pm: Active Hope Training Session – A few years ago, the church studied the book Active Hope, which tells us "We have to choose our attitude about the climate crisis, hope our despair. We don't know if humanity will respond wisely, but we don't know that we won't either. So we have to choose our attitude." The Climate Action Team worked the follow-up program "Active Hope Training" this summer and liked it so much, they are starting a new session on October 30. Scott is preparing to offer a grief workshop for First Church members and friends early in the new year. Navigating Grief is a class for those experiencing grief due to a significant life change, such as death of a loved one or divorce. This is a six-consecutive-week course, and participants should plan to attend all six sessions. While most of the session work is done in a group process by participants, facilitators have information to impart as well. There is “group-think,” self-processing, table-sharing opportunities, and some writing work between sessions. This group is closed, meaning that no new participants will be admitted during this cycle. Please stay tuned for the next cycle if you are interested in participating. |

Blood donations have declined drastically since COVID-19 because the Blood Center had limited ability to partner with most of its “old faithfuls”, namely high schools, colleges, and companies. Join us to help save lives right here in Houston! You are eligible to donate if it has been at least 2 months since your last blood donation, and if you meet the Blood Center’s other requirements. The last blood drive hosted at First Church was on November 7th, 2021.
