Please contact carol@firstuu.org for advanced registration information. 10:00 am: Houston Women's Group - HWG – First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston, Room 302 10:45 am: Arts Forum: "Singing HERstory" with Dr. Jolie Rocke and Chelsea de Souza – Dr. Jolie Rocke is introducing a new quarterly series of Arts Forums at First Church. Beginning Sunday, March 27, 2022. Between services (10:45-11:15 am) in the First Church sanctuary (live stream available), Dr. Rocke and Chelsea de Souza will present an informative performance of one of her original works. “Singing HERstory” pays homage to the life and achievements of inspiring women from the banner exhibit, Sing the Truth: Voices from The Amistad Center for Art & Culture located in Hartford, Connecticut. This production is a celebration of the African American female performance tradition and its impact on the fight for freedom and equality. For more than 150 years, several women defined career paths that fed them artistically and financially as they enriched this nation and the world. Discover the music and acclaim of fourteen pioneering women including Sissieretta Jones, Marian Anderson, Mahalia Jackson, Pearl Bailey, and Lola Falana. 11:30 am: RE for Teens - High School – Teens in High School meet online on 1st and 3rd Sundays, and outdoors in-person at the church on 2nd and 4th Sundays, to talk about exploring different spiritual practices and other topics of interest. April 23, 2022(2 events) 1:30 pm: Our Whole Lives Sexuality Education – in the Fireside Room 2:00 pm: "Trans Youth, Religion, and Health" Panel Discussion – The First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston, as part of their Ministers’ Forums series, will be presenting a panel discussion to disseminate accurate information about the spirituality and health of transgender youth in Texas, and the legal issues they and their families face. Necessitated by the dangerous political theatrics of the state’s elected leaders, the panel will include local faith leaders, health professionals, legal experts, and transgender individuals and members of their families. All who wish to know more about these issues are encouraged to attend, and the event will be livestreamed at https://firstuu.org/livestreaming/. |
