Dear Members and Friends,
I have recently accepted the position of Board Treasurer, and appreciate this opportunity for all of you to get to know me, or maybe know me a little better.
First, we all need to thank Don Poole for his many years of service as Treasurer. Don has a very demanding “day job” and yet has found countless hours of time to volunteer as First Church Treasurer and also participate in a number of other church activities as well. First Church has been extremely lucky to have a person of Don’s experience, expertise, and stature overseeing the church finances.
Now a little about me. I am a recently retired CPA and have worked with a number of organizations over the years in both staff and volunteer roles. Since retiring, I have been able to spend more time on musical pursuits and outdoor activities. My wife Dinah and I joined First Church in the mid-1980’s and were married at the church in 1986. Dinah is a pediatric social worker and educator at Baylor College of Medicine. We have two grown daughters (and one granddaughter), both of whom participated in RE as they were growing up in the 1990s and 2000s.
In my first few short months as Treasurer I have started to gain a better understanding of all the responsibilities of Rev. Bossen; Tawanna Grice, Director of Finance; and the rest of the administrative staff. A lot of this work is behind-the-scenes, but is critical to the continued success of the congregation. We should all try to thank them for their efforts whenever we can.
Lastly, a little housekeeping – I have been asked to remind the congregation to make donations, especially larger ones, such as to the Capital Campaign, by check rather than credit cards whenever possible. The church has to pay fees every time it accepts a credit card, so it does not receive the full donation amount that the donor has made. Over the course of a year, those fees can add up.
I look forward to my service as Treasurer and getting to know many more of the congregation members.
