Dear Friends and Members,
As Rev. Colin mentioned last week, Sunday is our annual Ingathering and Water Communion. It’s a special service, and I hope you will be there. Please bring a small container of water from a place important to you, perhaps one that you visited over the summer.
After participating in Sunday’s service, I will head to Dallas, as I have begun my half-time schedule. But not to fear - I’m planning several programs and projects for when I return!
First, I’m creating a Pastoral Associates Team. Just as the Worship Associates help the minister during the worship service, the Pastoral Associates will help Rev. Colin when I’m not in Houston.
This team will be a partner to the Care Team, and the responsibilities very well may have some overlap. While the Care Team helps those with more long-term needs, the Pastoral Associates will be ready to help when someone needs to be there with them in the Emergency Room or visit at home when there is a concern. The associates are not expected to provide pastoral counseling.
If you are interested in finding out more details about this important project, and how to join, email me at scott@firstuu.org.
The Newcomer Covenant Group is restarting soon! We will meet on five Thursdays through December, at 6:30 in Channing Hall. The dates are September 5, October 10, October 24, November 14, and December 19.
This is a place for new folks to meet others in the church, learn more about Unitarian Universalism, and to help them think about their lives spiritually through the process of sharing with others. If you’d like to RSVP, or have questions, email me at scott@firstuu.org.
Barbara Schott and I will be again offering the Navigating Grief workshop this fall. It will be six Tuesdays, October 8 – 29 and November 12 – 19. Navigating Grief is a class for those experiencing grief due to a significant life change, such as death of a loved one or divorce.
If you’d like to RSVP, want more details, or have questions, email me at scott@firstuu.org.
As you can see, the ministers and staff work hard to provide a lot of valuable programming for members and friends. We hope you take advantage of the offerings, and that they enrich your lives.
With much love and appreciation,
Rev. D. Scott Cooper
