Dear Members and Friends,
Many of you see me on Sunday mornings greeting you along with the Welcome Team at the Fannin Entrance with the maroon painted gates (Whoop!) The Welcome Team greets every single Sunday (yes, all 52 without skipping a beat) and special services such as Winter Solstice, Christmas Eve, and the Blessing of the Animals. Most volunteers commit two Sundays a month, give or take. They are responsible for greeting, helping visitors with information and directions, collecting and counting the offering during the service, and counting the attendance of everyone in the sanctuary. We are seeking two volunteers to co-lead the Welcome Team and manage the tasks of the team. If you are interested in volunteering with the Welcome Team, please see me on Sunday morning.
The Welcome Team is one of over 75 volunteer groups, teams, and committees that develop and implement programs and events on behalf of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston in our community.
Another team that I provide staff support is the Spanish Ministry Team. Although my first language is Spanish, I am not as fluent as I would want to be, but I have been able to assist the Spanish Ministry Team plan their Spanish language services for the past two years. The Spanish Ministry Team will again plan five Spanish language services, and we have added a couple of new volunteers. If you would like to help plan and be part of the Spanish language worship, please let me know by emailing membership@firstuu.org.
I am also the staff support to Rev. Colin to plan for the Newcomer Covenant Group Retreat. This Saturday retreat replaces the weekly Newcomer Covenant Group meetings with one Saturday in October and one Saturday in April. If you are a newcomer or visitor who still wants to learn more about Unitarian Universalism before joining the church as a member, please join Rev. Colin as he reviews the Unitarian Universalist Pocket Guide with you. RSVP to membership@firstuu.org for either date: October 10, 2026, or April 3, 2027.
I have a few physical copies of the updated 2026 Directory of Members and Friends in the church office. Please ask Ames for a copy during your next visit. You can choose to be included in the directory or update your contact information by emailing me at membership@firstuu.org
I invite you all to volunteer this year in any of the above teams and get to know your fellow congregational members and friends. You are always welcome to stop by the office if you have any questions.
