D. Scott Cooper
ASSISTANT MINISTER OF CONGREGATIONAL LIFE
Scott recently came to the First UU Church of Houston to serve as Assistant Minister. Scott served as Sabbatical Minister at his home church, the First Unitarian Church of Dallas, and completed his Ministerial Internship at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento. Scott graduated in 2016 with his Master of Divinity degree from Brite Divinity School.
DIRECTOR OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Carol leads our Children’s and Youth religious education and our Connections: Adult Enrichment opportunities along with a talented and devoted group of volunteers. She loves working with children and teens, watching them grow and change. Music is one of her passions, shared in our weekly Closing Circle with family singing as well as the First UU String Band. You will also find Carol working for a sustainable climate with First UU and local non-profits and advocating at the city council.
After an extensive career and experience in top financial and accounting management, Tawanna has joined us to direct our finance and facilities departments. She graduated with an MBA from Texas Women’s University, serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees at First Unitarian Universalist Church, and she is also a board member at a local credit union association.
MEMBERSHIP & COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR
Alma is working on updating our membership records, redesigning publications, managing our electronic weekly newsletter and other communications. She is also working with several First UU Church groups to centralize communications and dissemination of information.
Mark leads our First UU Sanctuary Choir, arranges for all types of musical performances, and consults with the ministers on Sunday’s music programming. Mark is also the Artistic Director for International Voices Houston.
Each Sunday, Jon makes sure our Order of Service, pulpit announcements and internal notices are completed and posted. He maintains the flow of communications coming to the office, helps members and visitors, and leads a Tai-Chi group on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
