RSVP – Lamentation Service 2026

We invite you to participate in the reading of names as part of our vigil marking the twenty-fifth anniversary of the September 11th attacks. On Friday, September 11, 2026, Rev. Dr. Colin Bossen, Senior Minister of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston (First UU), Imam Abdullah Antepli, President of Rothko Chapel, and members of First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston, along with others from the community, will recite the names of all the victims who died on, or as a result of, the attacks on September 11, 2001.

The readings will take place at both First UU (5200 Fannin) and at Rothko Chapel (3900 Yupon). After a short opening ritual at 7:40 a.m. the service will begin at 7:46 am, the time (in Houston) the first plane flew into the North tower. This ritual of lamentation is being held to mourn the loss of life resulting from not only the attacks, but also the many lives lost in the subsequent wars. The readings of over 600 pages of known names of those who died will take place simultaneously in each location.

7:40 a.m. to 12 a.m at First UU (5200 Fannin)

10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Rothko Chapel (3900 Yupon)

We invite you to be a participant and read names at First Unitarian Universalist for a time. We are filling fifteen-minute slots, but you may sign-up for multiple times.
