Ongoing Programs

MONDAYS

Yoga for Beginners

Each Monday, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

This class addresses the yoga needs of beginners and those interested in developing a better mind/body integration. Individual needs are addressed.

TUESDAYS

Tai Chi (Traditional Yang Style Short Form with martial arts references)

Each Tuesday, 6:15 p.m.

Intended for serious relaxation, this class concentrates on creating and moving Chi/Qi (vital force) through meditation while moving. Dale Englefield teaches the traditional Yang Style short form with martial arts references. Beginners are encouraged to arrive early for personal instruction at 5:30 p.m.

The Great Ideas Group

Second and Fourth Tuesdays, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

  • Second Tuesdays: "Travels in Space and Time" from the Carl Sagan series Cosmos.
  • Fourth Tuesdays: Tim Mock speaks about climate change.

THURSDAYS

Adult Choir Rehearsal

Each Thursday, 7:30 p.m.

FRIDAYS

Poetry in Motion

Each Friday, 10 a.m. to noon

A favorite poem can be your friend and companion forever. It can move you, delight you, and enrich your hours of reflection over and over again. Members choose the selections.

1st and 3rd Fridays (No meetings in July or August)

Movie and Potluck

2nd Fridays

The potluck will be at 6:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 7:00 p.m. A children’s movie will be scheduled if we receive requests with sufficient notice (10 days before the event: contact childcare@firstuu.org).

Folk Dancing

7:30 pm, Channing Hall

Houston International Folk Dancers is a recreational group that dances a wide variety of ethnic folk dances from around the world at the church most Friday evenings. They encourage church members and friends to join them. For more information: www.folkdancers.org.

SATURDAYS

Yoga

Each Saturday, 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

The word yoga means union. In this class, we learn to unite the mind with the body to create muscular balance and improve flexibility and strength. The class is gentle and open to beginners and intermediate level students. Your first class is free. Suggested donation: church members $7, visitors $10. Instructor: Julie Byrd: 713-520-8165.
