Thoreau-Richmond Sunday Celebration
Our Sunday Celebration is the center of our community life. You are invited to be a part of what we co-create!
Sunday service at the Thoreau-Richmond Campus is 10:45am, followed by hospitality in the Fellowship Hall. We look forward to seeing you!
The sermon may be preached live by one of First Church’s ministers, or it may be delivered as a video. The rest of the worship service is conducted live by our Campus Minister or one of our Worship Associates, so you will always feel a part of an authentic spiritual community.
There is no dress code. People wear what they are most comfortable in — it varies from “Sunday Best” to tee shirt, shorts and sandals, or anything in between.
There is child care for infants and toddlers in the nursery from 9:00am to noon.
Each Sunday children are included in the opening part of the worship service. Then they leave for Religious Education classes with their teachers. (If you are new, feel free to accompany your child to class, then return to the service.) Families rejoin their children in the Fellowship Hall after services. Babies and toddlers (nursing or otherwise) are welcome to stay with their parent in the service.
Before and after the Worship Services:
Our Adult Discussion Group (ADG) meets in the large classroom prior to the service at 9:30am, and there is additional adult programming throughout the week for spiritual growth and enrichment.
Before service, our friendly greeters will be happy to assist you. To be added to our distribution lists, you may fill out a contact card, and there are literature racks with information about Unitarian Universalism and our church in the Fellowship Hall.
We invite you to enjoy our hospitality hour after service — it’s a great way to meet new people and get to know our community.
About once a quarter, Thoreau sponsors a “Service After the Service” event, when congregants and guests of all ages join together in a short Social Action project such as wrapping Christmas presents for low income families, sorting school supplies, or making sandwiches for the homeless.
