| Adult Programs Committee |
Courses and special events on spiritual/theological topics,
social justice, UU history and traditions, personal growth and
skill development are held during the year. |
| Befrienders |
Trained volunteers "befriend" church members and friends, as requested, during a two-year commitment of service; an extension of the formal ministry. |
| Care Team Committee |
Provides practical assistance for members, their families, and
their caregivers who would like extra help when they have an
acute or chronic health care need. |
| Channing Book Cart and Committee |
Sells books related to UU, philosophy, religion and personal
development on Sunday mornings; orders books from Beacon or
Skinner Press on request. |
| Community Involvement Committee |
Sensitizes the church to social problems, promotes and organizes
community projects, and demonstrates that active interest can
make a difference. |
| Denominational Connections Committee |
The liason between our church and denominational programs and
organizations (UU Network, Southwest District, UUA, and
our Partner Church in Arkos, Romania) |
| Endowment Committee |
Manages the Endowment Fund, recommends investment policies,
and encourages the long-term financial support by members and
friends; appointed by the Board of Trustees. |
| Executive Committee |
Ensures the policies and decisions of the Board are executed;
provides options and information to the Board for action. |
| Facilities Committee |
Oversees needs for the grounds and buildings. |
| Finance Committee |
Oversees and maintains records of church finances, generates
financial statements, and advises the Board on financial matters. |
| Green Sanctuary Committee |
Works with the congregation, through individual and
group efforts, to develop initiatives which increase awareness and action regarding environmental
issues and injustices, and to incorporate environmental respect into spiritual and First Church practice. |
| Information Technology (IT) Committee |
Provides support for the computing, network, and other technial
infrastructure of the church. |
| Library Committee |
Organizes and operates the church library. |
| Membership Committee |
Oversees activities to attract visitors and newcomers and
provide information about church membership. |
| Music Committee |
Provides communication between the congregation, the minister, and the professional music staff and the choir. |
| Nominating Committee |
Selects nominees to fill open positions on the Board of Trustees, the
Stewardship Committee, and the Personnel Committee. |
| Partner Church Committee |
Supports and develops programs to expand our association with our
partner church in Arkos, Romania. For more information on the work in Arkos, please see
Planting Seeds. |
| Personnel Committee |
Coordinates church staffing issues. |
| Program Council |
Composed of delegates from each of the church groups and committees to provide
inter-committee support; coordinates church programs, advises the Board on program activities, and requests action from the
Board. |
| Public Relations/Communications Committee |
Responsible for publicizing the church in the Houston area and the District. |
| Religious Education Committee |
Helps provide our children and youth with opportunities to grow
spiritually, to develop a sense of personal and social responsibility,
and to experience joy as a central part of a living community. |
| Rental Committee |
Develops policies relating to rental of church rooms to both members
and non-members. |
| Services Auction |
Organizes and develops this major supplemental fund raiser held in the Fall. |
| Spring Retreat Committee |
Organizes and develops the annual Spring weekend retreat, usually held at the Piney Woods Conservation Center, in East Texas. |
| Stewardship Committee |
Organizes and develops the annual pledge drive from which we obtain the money
for salaries, programs, and maintenance of the church. |
| UU Houston Network |
Consortium of representatives from the UU churches in the
Houston metropolitan area, including Galveston and The Woodlands;
helps to identify needs and provides support to local churches. |
| Web Committee |
Designs and maintains the church web site. |
| Worship Associates Committee |
Selected by the minister to assist in planning and presenting the worship services. |
