If you visit the Thoreau campus, you will notice we proudly display six flags. Many of our visitors ask about the symbolism behind these flags.

We proudly display the American flag as a symbol of the democratic process we affirm as a UU congregation.

As a Unitarian Universalist congregation working to advance justice in the Lone Star state, we display the Texas flag.

We display the Pride flag as a well-known symbol to indicate we are a Welcoming Congregation.

The Ecology flag reminds us of the “Interconnected web of existence of which we are all a part”.

We include the World Peace flag as a reminder of our goal “of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all”.

Our Coexist flag affirms that we find wisdom in all the world’s religions and welcome all with love and acceptance.

During our annual Independence Day service, we proudly present all six flags to the congregation.
